A 5-Step Night Skincare Routine

A thumb rule of any skincare routine is going from watery consistency to thicker consistency. There is a kernel of truth to the beauty of rest: your skin absorbs more nutrients at night than in the daytime. From cleansing to moisturizing, all the products must be enriched with natural goodness and calming properties. During the daytime, environmental factors like UV rays, dust, smoke, or pollution can damage your skin cells, clog the pores, and causes skin breakouts like acne, pimples, or dark spots. Ensure to remove your makeup and apply products with gentle hands. Don't switch products quickly; give your skin some time to absorb the goodness.

Here are some of the do's and dont's of night skincare routine:

Do's:

  • Remove makeup every day.
  • Skincare is not limited to the face; show your body some love.
  • Use products with anti-inflammatory ingredients.
  • Load up on antioxidants, protect your skin

Dont's :

  • Don't skip and sleep.
  • Reduce screen timing.
  • Don't over-exfoliate; 2-3 times a week is enough.
  • Moisturize daily before sleep
  • Don't neglect your neck and under-eyes.
  • Don't forget to put on an eye mask.

Step 1: Remove makeup:

The first and foremost step to start the night skincare regime is removing makeup with micellar water. Remember that your makeup absorbs all the dirt and germs during the day. Applying any skin care product without cleansing your face might cause inflammation and rashes. You can also use a cleanser instead of makeup removal water. Before putting in all the products, ensure to wash your face with water first. Sometimes cosmetic products might also have chemicals and preservatives; leaving them overnight on your skin is definitely a bad idea. Removing makeup promotes cellular growth and also prevents the chances of severe skin breakouts.

Tips:

  • Gently wipe instead of rubbing
  • Dab with a cotton ball instead of directly applying
  • Take only a few drops

Step 2: Face wash:

Next comes washing your face. This is the most common process followed by every adult. However, the process and usage are questionable. Firstly, it is essential to know your skin type. If possible, contact a dermatologist and check your skin because every ingredient is not suitable for every skin. Washing your face removes the dirt from clogged skin pores and clears out all the impurities and unwanted debris from the epidermis (outer layer of the skin). The face wash also boosts your skin hydration and prevents the penetration of bacteria in the skin cells.

Tips:

  • Gently massage your skin.
  • Don't splash water.
  • Use lukewarm water

Step 3: Toner:

After washing your face, take a 2 min pause and let your skin feel the freshness. The next step is using toner. Unfortunately, many people skip the step and directly put moisturizer, which is not ideal for handling your skin issues. Toner has a range of benefits, but people don't understand its importance; in short, you can call a toner the unsung hero in the world of beauty products. Next, soak a few drops on a cotton pad and start swiping it all over your face and neck. A toner aims to rejuvenate your skin without stripping the natural moisture.

Tips:

  • Massage with fingertips
  • Don't forget your neck
  • Be careful in the eye region
  • Use an alcohol-free toner

Step 4: Serums:

The next steps can be customized according to your preference, but it's ideal to follow the process. This is the step where you put any spot treatments on, like applying serum. It might sound like social media buzz, but it is essential in the skincare regime. A serum is the like the multitasker of your team; from giving a radiant glow to fading fine lines, it has your back all the time. In addition, serums reduce inflammation and moisturize your skin because they contain anti-inflammatory properties. Though there are many options for you, the Azelaic acid serum is one of the most convenient options, especially for people with sensitive skin. It has anti-microbial properties and also prevents skin breakouts like acne or pimples. You can also use serum creams like Rejusure 's azelaic acid serum cream. It is paraben-free, decreases your sebum level, and can be used as a dark spot removal cream.

Tips:

  • Know your skin type
  • Apply only a few drops and massage
  • Leave it on for a while and let the skin cells soak in the benefits

Moisturizer:

Some people skip this process after using serums, but it is essential to end your night skincare regime using a moisturizer, even if you have oily skin. A moisturizer is a barrier between your skin cells and impurities; it clears the dead cells and nurtures your skin. Moisturizers are a solution for many skin problems like developing extreme dryness or oiliness and even dark spots or blemishes. In addition, a moisturizer can boost collagen production, increase elasticity, and reduce premature skin aging.

Tips:

  • Choose a natural plant-based moisturizer.
  • Massage instead of rubbing.

Exceptions:

The above steps are essential for a daily skincare routine, but sometimes it is also needed to make exceptions, for example, scrubbing your face twice a week, applying a face mask, a Guasha, or under eye cream.
